Frequently Asked Questions
How do i get started?
Call or email Chickadee Speech Therapy to discuss your concerns and determine if your child might benefit from an evaluation and/or therapy services. You can also fill out the Contact Us form here.
Do you require an evaluation to begin services?
Yes, we require an evaluation. We can accept an evaluation completed in the past 6 months and if the previous evaluation was in all areas of concern.
What ages do you work with and where are services provided?
Chickadee Speech Therapy provides speech, language, and feeding therapy services from birth to age 21. We consider adult clients on a case-by- case basis. We offer teletherapy in your home, school, or online. We offer in-home therapy in the Fort Collins, CO area.
How long will my child need therapy?
It depends. The length of treatment will vary based on a variety of factors, including the diagnosis, severity of delay/disorder, attendance, motivation, other medical considerations and at home practice. Most clients have therapy sessions 1 to 2 times per week. While some clients require only a few months of treatment, others may take much longer.
Do parents attend the sessions?
We encourage parents to sit in on their child’s therapy sessions. It is helpful for the parent/caregiver to see their child's hard effort and interaction in therapy. It is beneficial for the client if the parent learn therapeutic techniques from the therapist for carryover at home. It is important for the therapist to have parent feedback regarding the child’s progress outside of the therapy room. We understand that it is not always possible for parents to attend their child’s sessions, but we do ask that the parent make every effort to be as involved as possible in the treatment process.
What is the difference between the services you provide and the services my child is getting at school?
Children who receive services through their school must meet certain eligibility criteria and their delay/disorder must have a negative impact on their progress academically or socially in the school setting in order to qualify for services. Chickadee Speech Therapy provides private speech therapy and is able to use all environments, including home, school and other social settings to determine eligibility for services.
In both settings, speech therapy services are designed to address the specific needs of your child. School based speech therapy is often provided in a group setting, however private therapy provides focused one-on-one sessions free from distractions.
Parents are unable to participate in school-based speech therapy. At Chickadee Speech Therapy, parents are encouraged to participate in their child's therapy sessions. We offer parent coaching for caregivers to learn ways to facilitate carry over of newly acquired skills outside of the therapy setting.
Services provided through public schools are free and available to any child who qualifies for them. Our services are provided for a fee and may be paid for by the caregiver via cash, check, or credit card.
Many children benefit from private one-on-one therapy in addition to the services they receive through the school system. We always welcome the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals on your child's team.
Do you accept insurance?
Chickadee Speech Therapy accepts private pay clients. We provide support for out-of-network insurance reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all forms of payment, including cash, credit/debit cards and checks.
What are your COVID-19 procedures?
