Teletherapy

Chickadee Speech Therapy, LLC offers online therapy sessions for children and families in Colorado and Florida. Teletherapy is an excellent option for families who are social distancing, have busy schedules, do not have access to in-person therapy due to time and location limitations or want the convenience of therapy without leaving their home (and kids love it!).

We will determine if direct therapy, parent coaching or a combination of both is the best depending on your child's age.

Please read the teletherapy FAQ section to learn more about teletherapy and how it works. Contact us to determine if it will be a good fit for your child.

FAQ

Will my child experience results from online therapy?

Teletherapy is as effective as in-person therapy. I use fun and engaging activities and deliver the same quality of therapy as in-person sessions. Also, evaluations which consist of orally administered tests—mostly what we use—show minimal change caused by videoconferencing platforms.

My child did not do well with school online. How is teletherapy different?

1-to-1 is not same as 1-to-25. My focus will be on your child and not on other students. My sessions are designed to be at your child's level and incorporate their interests. Online school had to mirror normal class time; our sessions are much shorter.

3

How does teletherapy work?

Teletherapy looks different for each child depending on their age and goals. For children under 3, a combination of parent coaching and direct therapy will be used. For parent/caregiver coaching, the therapist will guide the parent during interactions and activities with the child. Parent coaching is a great way for parents to learn how to practice activities that will support their child's progress. Direct therapy requires a caregiver to be present to help facilitate the activities.

4

What do I need to prepare for a teletherapy session?

All you need is a computer with an internet connection, an up-to-date browser, a webcam and an audio headset. Prior to an evaluation or first therapy session, you will be provided with information for logging onto the online therapy platform. We will  check our connection prior to the session to make sure we have adequate audio, video and connection.

5

How will you keep my child engaged during the session?

To keep your child engaged, we use fun activities and incorporate the websites, apps or games they like. We also try to find a way to bring their favorite session activities to them virtually.  Before the session, we will be sure to let parents know what needs to be prepared for our upcoming session. We may also email activities beforehand so parents can print and gather any necessary supplies.

6

Can we use a computer, tablet or phone for teletherapy?

We use a secure platform for teletherapy. Clients can access the platform from a computer or tablet with a web-based browser. Prior to your first session, we will provide you with directions for logging on and a troubleshooting guide to refer to during our sessions.
